We gather to honor the day freedom was spoken aloud, to stand where our ancestors once stood, and to celebrate family, community, and Black joy in its fullest form. At Hosanna School Museum, the story lives on — through music, culture, heritage, and the power of togetherness.
This is where history is held.
This is where legacy continues.
This is where family and freedom meet.

WELCOME TO THE UPPER BAY JUNETEENTH FESTIVAL!

A celebration of liberation, heritage, family, and culture.
The Upper Bay Juneteenth Festival invites families, educators, creators, entrepreneurs, and freedom-carriers from across the region to gather for a powerful three-day experience rooted in history and community. Held on the historic grounds of Hosanna School Museum — one of the first Freedmen’s Bureau schools in Maryland — this weekend honors our past while building joyfully toward the future.
ABOUT JUNETEENTH

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. What began as community remembrance has grown into a national observance of Black resilience, achievement, creativity, and hope. At Hosanna, Juneteenth is both remembrance and rebirth — a moment to honor those who fought for freedom, celebrate how far we’ve come, and continue the work of justice, education, and empowerment.
